This print is signed, titled and numbered by Enid Marx in pencil from a small edition of 50.
A rare print from a set of six linocuts originally produced by Enid Marx between 1936 - 1970. Printed on thin 'Japon' paper, these five colour linocuts with red accents were produced as a box-set portfolio edition by the Judd Street Gallery, London in 1989.
This print entitled Swans was first produced in 1936. It was a depiction of swan-shaped boats on the estuary of the River Exe at Starcross in Devon, which were made for ferrying tourists between Starcross and Exmouth.
These prints are currently on show as part of the Enid Marx: The Eve-Breuning Gift exhibition until 26th February 2012 in the De'Longhi Print Room (Free entry). For more information visit the Pallant House Gallery Website.

Artists Biography
Enid Marx (1902-1998)
Marx, sometimes called 'Marco' was a successful textile designer, who also worked as a painter, printmaker, children's book author and illustrator, designer of book jackets, trademarks and postage stamps. She was commissioned in 1937 to design seating fabric for Underground trains. Marx was a member of the Design Panel of the Utility Furniture Advisory Committee (1944-7), the first woman engraver to be appointed a Royal Designer for Industry (1944) and was elected a Fellow of the Society of Industrial Artists. She taught and lectured on the history of textiles, and published two books with Margaret Lambert "English Popular and Traditional Art" 1946 and "English Popular Art" 1951. In 1965, she became head of the department of Dress, Textiles and Ceramics at Croydon College of Art.
