Oli Paintings in Public Ownership: Hampshire: Southampton and the Isle of Wight

This catalogue reveals all the oil paintings in public collections in the City of Southampton, part of the ceremonial county of Hampshire, together with those from the Isle of Wight. Over 2,000 paintings are shown from 21 collections. Southampton City Art Gallery contributes just over half of the catalogue with one of the best collections of twentieth century British art in the United Kingdom. A fascinating variety of smaller museums are represented as are sizable collections in two hospitals and two universities. A further volume in the series will cover the collections in the rest of Hampshire.
