Inside London captures the spirit of London today. Dorothy Bohm’s photographs capture the contradictions of London today: the juxtaposition of old and new, of tradition and modernity, which often produces a jumbled urban landscape. This is for the most part the London which tourists do not see, the hidden corners where people go about their everyday lives, observed by the photographer with sensitivity and humour.
Dorothy Bohm has travelled and photographed widely throughout the world, but London is where she has come to feel at home. Photographing London for more than forty years, Bohm is constantly exploring and documenting its endless variety. Yet increasing familiarity with the city has never lured her into taking it for granted and Inside London reveals the tireless intensity of her enquiry.
Dorothy Bohm is one of the most prolific and wide-ranging of photographers. Her work can be found in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, the Arts Council of England, the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, the Axel Rod Collection, Los Angeles, and many private collections throughout the world. She was one of the founding members of The Photographers’ Gallery, London and its Associate Director for fifteen years. Her previous books include Egypt and Venice (Thames and Hudson), Sixties London (The Photographers’ Gallery/Lund Humphries) and Walls and Windows (Royal Photographic Society/Lund Humphries).

Martin Harrison has written numerous books including Transition: The London Art Scene in the Fifties and Young Meteors: British Photo-journalism 1957–1965.
